No motor = no limits!

Non-motorized treadmills have been a staple across elite training environments for over 15 years. That’s because just about every team sport requires high-speeds, and more importantly acceleration – something that is repeated over and over throughout a game. Using a motorised treadmill, the athlete is limited by how quickly they can adjust the controls, as well as the time is takes for the belt to reach the required speed. Additionally, the passive motion of the leg being drawn backwards by the already moving belt reduces the work done in the hip extensor muscles. Non-motorised treadmills don’t suffer from these drawbacks, and more realistically replicate the physiological demands of real-world running.

With these benefits in mind, we have developed our own non-motorised, curved treadmill – the RAZE Renegade Runner.

Advantages of the RAZE Renegade Runner

  • Moves as fast as the athlete
  • Rate of acceleration is not limited, nor is max sprinting speed
  • Allows rapid changes of speed
  • 6 levels of resistance – so as well as jogging and sprinting, it can also deliver similar training effects to sled towing, running uphill, and parachute training

Construction fixings – why are they important? https://indigofitness.com/blog/construction-fixings/ Thu, 11 Nov 2021 09:55:38 +0000 https://indigofitness.com/?p=10353 Over the last decade, the type of equipment being installed and used within the gym environment has changed radically, with training rigs and racks now being part of the mainstream. However, this change in equipment necessitates a change in approach to installation. Many of the rack and rig systems are not free-standing and require fixing to walls, floors, or even ceilings. But how do you know your walls and floors are strong enough to take the load imposed by equipment and training activity, or know that equipment has been securely fixed? The consequences of failure can be serious and costly.

At IndigoFitness, our installation engineers are trained in the selection of fixing methods and types as well as the professional installation and testing of fixings. They hold independent accreditation for this in accordance with British Standard 8539:2012 “Code of practice for the selection and installation of post-installed anchors in concrete and masonry”. We use specialist equipment and software during the testing process, with data automatically captured by GPS and recorded with location, date/time stamp, and installation images, all producing a record of the work undertaken.

We have invested in both staff training and testing equipment to provide our clients with peace of mind that our equipment is installed to a high standard, and that we deliver safe training environment.

Next time you are choosing a supplier to work with on your gym design, gym flooring, or training space installation, ask whether they’ll be using appropriate construction fixings and conducting tests as part of their installation process. If they aren’t, think about why not, and what that means about the quality of solution you may receive.

Why do we carry out moisture testing before installing gym flooring? https://indigofitness.com/blog/moisture-testing-before-gym-flooring-installation/ Thu, 11 Nov 2021 09:50:24 +0000 https://indigofitness.com/?p=10347 When there is too much moisture present, laying gym flooring has the potential to cause significant problems for you in the future. The screed or concrete can look dry and suitable, but the only way to 100% know if the sub floor is dry enough is to conduct a hygrometer moisture test, which measures the relative humidity of the air in contact with the floor. This is particularly important with regards to gym flooring materials that require bonding to sub-floors such as rolled rubber, and artificial turf and tracks. The IndigoFitness installation team conduct this test as part of our standard process, guaranteeing a high standard of fitting and a quality gym flooring result.

Next time you are choosing a supplier to work with on your gym flooring, ask whether they’ll be conducting a moisture test as part of their pre-installation process. If they aren’t, think about why not, and what that means about the quality of solution you may receive.

As well as advising on types and styles of gym flooring, we are also able to offer guidance and support on wider flooring subjects such as sub-floor construction, preparation, screed and levelling compound types, and alternative methods to prepare or stabilise floors. We’re happy to be brought in during the very early planning stages of a project, working with you and your construction partners, to ensure you get the correct solution.

Why do IndigoFitness make the effort to get ISO Accreditation? https://indigofitness.com/blog/why-do-indigofitness-make-the-effort-to-get-iso-accreditation/ Mon, 08 Nov 2021 15:53:54 +0000 https://indigofitness.com/?p=10301 Although it is voluntary there are many benefits associated with ISO certification. It signifies a commitment to becoming ‘best-in-class’ and acts as a sign of our credibility. It provides a way for IndigoFitness to demonstrate core competencies and enables us to review and improve our processes and take a more active approach to management.  It instills a continuous improvement approach and ensures that we are reacting correctly to changes in the market, reducing risks and increasing operational efficiency and productivity. We have achieved Accreditation across Quality (ISO 9001:2015), Environmental (ISO 14001:2015) and Occupational Health & Safety (ISO 45001:2018).

Put simply, we use a wide range of standards to improve our performance, reduce risk, work more sustainably, or simply to stay compliant with laws and regulations. They provide reassurance that we are operating to a high-level, and confidence that we have been independently assessed. They demonstrate our competence to design and deliver your training space, covering key areas such as equipment design and manufacture and on-site installation work.

Next time you are choosing a supplier to work with on your new gym design, gym flooring, or training space installation, we’d urge you to check first whether they have ISO accreditation. If they don’t, think about why not, and what that means about the quality of solution and service you may receive.  ISO standards establish expectation levels between businesses. As a customer, if you place two businesses side-by-side (one with certification and one without), you can easily identify the key areas where a certified company like IndigoFitness will out-perform uncertified competitors.

INDIGOFITNESS ANNOUNCE NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH MATT HAMPSON FOUNDATION https://indigofitness.com/news/indigofitness-announce-new-partnership-with-matt-hampson-foundation/ https://indigofitness.com/news/indigofitness-announce-new-partnership-with-matt-hampson-foundation/#respond Thu, 05 Aug 2021 15:05:46 +0000 https://indigofitness.com/?p=8606 IndigoFitness are delighted to announce a new three-year partnership with one of the most inspiring UK sporting charities. IndigoFitness are a UK based gym design and equipment manufacturer and will be the official strength and conditioning partner to The Matt Hampson Foundation.

The partnership will see IndigoFitness supply a wide range of RAZE strength and conditioning equipment and create a new outdoor Kenguru Para Park for the Foundation’s beneficiaries.

As well as creating the Kenguru Para Park, IndigoFitness will also provide some additional equipment for the Foundation’s current gym to enhance the already cutting-edge centre. The Matt Hampson Foundation will work with the IndigoFitness design and manufacturing team to further develop and test new products for disabled users.

The partnership is the formalisation of a long-standing relationship with the Foundation and the Sales Director at IndigoFitness Gary Oleinik. This has seen Gary supply gym equipment and personally support the charity for the last six years and gives Indigo a platform to showcase its product quality and gym design expertise in an inspirational environment.

Founded in 1996, with its HQ in Warwickshire, IndigoFitness are gym design specialists and proud British manufacturers of strength and functional training equipment. The team at Indigo are passionate about quality, performance, and creating amazing training spaces – environments that allow their clients and partners to train and perform at their best.

Gary Oleinik at IndigoFitness said “We are delighted to announce our partnership with The Matt Hampson Foundation, a truly unique organisation changing people’s lives. We look forward to working with them on the continued development of their Get Busy Living Centre, helping to enhance the lives of those within their community. It’s great to officially be part of the Hambo family.”

The foundations CEO Tommy Cawston said “Gary is a long-term supporter of The Foundation and to have him spearheading this exciting new partnership is fantastic. We can’t wait to see the impacts of the alliance with IndigoFitness on our beneficiaries and see how they progress through 2021 – our tenth anniversary year.”

The Matt Hampson Foundation – Get Busy Living Centre

The Matt Hampson Foundation inspires and supports young people seriously injured through sport through its Get Busy Living Centre in rural Leicestershire. The centre provides expert physiotherapy, specialist personal training, support, mentoring and advice to people suffering a life-changing injury.

The centre’s doors were opened in 2018 and is the brainchild of founder and ex-England and Leicester Tigers rugby player Matt Hampson, who himself experienced a life-changing injury in 2005 leaving him paralysed from the neck down, aged just 20.

Building a sense of community is central to the Matt Hampson Foundation. In the aftermath of an incident which leads to a life-changing injury most people and their families feel isolated with an overwhelming sense of loss for what has been taken away from them.

By becoming part of the community that Matt has created, beneficiaries of the Foundation are able to draw on the experience and knowledge of people who have been on the same journey. They develop the tools and skills they need to move on as they start to rebuild their lives. The centre becomes a place where they can feel normal again and be part of a strong and active social scene as they retrain themselves to focus on what they can do – not what they can’t. It’s a really special place.

Eventually, beneficiaries progress to the point where they become the ones providing the support to others. This in itself is a huge part of their rehabilitation and being able to help others provides a real sense of purpose and identity.

The Foundation helps people get busy living again after a life-changing injury -whether it’s helping them get back into sport or supporting them in adapting to their new life.

INDIGOFITNESS DESIGNS AND CONSTRUCTS STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING SHELTERS FOR THE MOD https://indigofitness.com/news/indigofitness-designs-and-constructs-strength-and-conditioning-shelters-for-the-mod/ https://indigofitness.com/news/indigofitness-designs-and-constructs-strength-and-conditioning-shelters-for-the-mod/#respond Thu, 05 Aug 2021 14:56:45 +0000 https://indigofitness.com/?p=8599 After an exhaustive and thorough design and evaluation process Indigo Fitness was awarded a contract to design, deliver, install, and maintain Strength & Conditioning Shelters across numerous Army training sites including AFC Harrogate, ATC Pirbright, ATR Winchester, RMAS and ITC Catterick. HQ RAPTC will follow during summer 2021.

Given the urgency due to the COVID pandemic, unprecedented collaboration between the Indigo design and project teams, HQ RAPTC, HQ ARITC, HQ ITG, DIO, Army Commercial and secure defence infrastructure providers Amey and Compass was achieved in short order fully supported by Home Command.

The semi-permanent facilities offer broad training utility with expected lifespans of a minimum of 10 years and manage the requirement for additional gym space not fulfilled by existing gymnasium infrastructure, infrastructure never designed for strength and conditioning training.

The S&C shelter is constructed with a steel canopy which is load bearing, allowing significant functionality to be loaded into the roof and external structure such as heave bars (up to 36) and climbing ropes (up to 10). Through the development process the capability was maximized with the addition of AFT(S) features to include loading platforms for the repeated lift and carry and artificial turf lanes, enabling the casualty drag and fire and manoeuvre tests to be carried out consistently in all weather conditions.

To future proof the systems a unique container mount rail system was designed to allow half racks, med ball targets, grapplers, and heave bars to be bolt fixed and reconfigured as required or should training needs change. The ISO lifting point mounted rails also eliminate the need to cut holes into the containers maintaining both structural integrity and preventing any water ingress. ISO containers are fitted with 2m locking roller shutter doors for easy access or pairs of doors allowing through access to the exterior features. All PTE functionality and supporting frameworks are full galvanized so not to corrode providing predictable training environments for many years.

The larger facilities create an open uncluttered training space 20m wide x 30m long allowing PT staff to control the training environment effectively and safely, up to Platoon strength. The size of the Shelters may also be scaled up or back depending upon individual unit scaling at a given time. All facilities are mains powered and include LED lighting and infrared heating that heats bodies as opposed to air. ISO containers are fully insulated to protect stored equipment against temperature fluctuations and condensation build up.

Under canopy flooring is a high impact and robust training surface designed for repeated outdoor use and not affected by temperature or UV light. Each open end is closed with a trackway mounted net curtain designed to allow air flow but protect against the elements. The curtain can be completely drawn back in fine weather conditions creating an all-weather inside out protected and safe training environment.

Without all stakeholders collaborating with a positive can-do attitude, it would have been impossible for the Indigo Project teams to carry out works in the most challenging conditions both commercially and during the global pandemic.

The 3000-mile race will depart in mid-December 2021 taking the team across the North Atlantic Ocean in an 8.5m long rowing boat, unsupported. Over approximately six weeks this will be the ultimate test of physical and mental endurance. Rowing in grueling two-hour shifts day and night, the team will battle their way through the waves from the La Gomera in the Canary Islands to the beaches of Antigua. Teams will race not only against each other but against the deterioration of their bodies and minds. Sleep deprivation, blisters, and salt sores are just a few of the treats that the team have to look forward to.
